The Boat Building Academy was founded in 1997 in Lyme Regis, UK and has earned an international reputation for excellence in the fields of boat building and related crafts.

Over the last 23 years our flagship 40-week Boat Building course has equipped a generation of men and women with the vital skills needed to work in the marine industries.

In recent times, Furniture Making has become an integral part of the Boat Building Academy, largely built upon the success of the 12-week Furniture Making course. Since 2009, the 12 week course has produced a wealth of talented craftspeople, many of whom have gained employment in all aspects of the woodworking and furniture making industries.

A 12-week Advanced Furniture Making course was recently launched to follow on from the ‘regular’ course, designed for intermediate students looking to develop their existing skills to the highest, professional standards.

For hobbyists and enthusiasts looking for further training, our popular programme of 2 to 5-day short courses range from introductory woodworking to marquetry and antique furniture restoration.

In 2020, The BBA Furniture School was established to house all of the woodworking courses at the Academy under one roof.
