Designer David Colwell gives a talk

Last week we were privileged to have influential designer David Colwell come down to Lyme Regis to deliver a lecture to our students on his work processes, working sustainably and the future of design.

Trained at the Royal College of Art, David has is well-known for his sustainable modern furniture and passive solar buildings – two lifelong passions that have earned many high-profile commissions. David also brought a long a few choice pieces including a striking red A-chair, a flexible Trannon chair, and a model boat devised with ‘flexible rigging’ – he is building the ‘real thing’ as we speak!

January 12-week Advanced Furniture Making Exhibition – ‘Works In Progress’

Friday 8th April marked the end of the course for the January 12-week Advanced Furniture Making course with an exhibition of work.

Held in the new courtyard classroom, the four students divided the room into quarters, with each member of the class decorating their own section of the room.

During the certificate ceremony in the main workshop, Ellie, who has completed the two 12-week Furniture Making courses back-to-back, was declared Student of the Year by BBA Director Will Reed.

Petter’s Keel Table

The 12-week Advanced Furniture Making class have now finished making their keel tables and have started work on their final project pieces.

Steam-bending Douglas Fir

On Thursday the 12 week Advanced Furniture Making class began steam bending Douglas Fir to be used on their bookcase project.
